由USPTO公開資料發現，Apple正在申請一個可以把iPhone結合車輛定位的專利，雖然
iPhone具有GPS的功能，但要鎖定衛星訊號往往需要時間，且資訊可能不夠精準。而這個新專利，可以讓用戶選擇使用車輛的GPS定位，如果定位訊號遺失，使用者可用最後探測到的位置作為目前所在點，進行位置推算(dead
reckoning)。
